HYGGE
" To promote a therapeutic and interactive platform to target users such as elderlies, young adults and teens in a post-pandemic world, and to satisfy the large demand for an urban green space. I thus introduce a community garden/farm, sensory garden with water feature and ponds, a cafe with community kitchen, and pottery studio/workshop, which utilises the empty car park and create a stronger sense of community. Rhythm and
movement creates a visual flow/tempo to bring people upwards, while repetition instills a playful ambience to prompts people to go out of their comfort zones to experience the multi-layered and interactive aspect of the space. The form unites the programs harmoniously. "
Hygge - Danish and Norwegian word for an intangible quality related with a
state of mind that imparts tranquility,
shelter, warmth, and comfort.
Mood board, material board (Night & Day) - Natural and Dreamscape ambience
SITE: MSCP 306B (Five-storey MSCP)
CLIENT: Residents living in nearby HDB flats like Blk 306, 308, 309, 310, 311
Residents and volunteers hope to transform the rooftop of the underutilized multi-story parking into a community area; a place where residents can gather, collaborate on activities, support one another, and have fun.
CONCEPT: A interactive and multi-sensorial space for target users of all ages to experience the five senses and interact with families and friends.
The target users are the elderly, young adults, and teens with green fingers or who want to learn something new. The majority of the residents are elderly so best to accommodate them. Young adults may not have time for gardening or any hobbies, so this might make them realise their potential and relieve stress.

The first program proposed was an urban farm and garden which can be separated into different sections, with a cafe linked to it. There will also be sensory gardens for each sense to calm the senses of residents and provide natural aesthetics to the unutilised rooftop, which is very spacious. The urban farm and garden will be separated as the farm-to-table concept will be implemented.
To be on par with the design statement quoting ‘more therapeutic and interactive platform’, another program was proposed: pottery-making. There will be a pottery studio/workshop so that residents of all ages(mainly target users) can experience a hands-on and therapeutic activity. Pottery is quite uncommon in Singapore and the nearest studio is quite far, so creating a pottery studio/workshop allows opportunities for residents to try something new.
